ROBERT GORDY
(American | New Orleans, 1933-1986)
Robert Gordy studied art at LSU and by 1955 permanently resided in New Orleans where he became an active member of the art scene until his untimely death in 1986. Known for his distinctive style of repetitive forms and stylized arrangements, Gordy worked in a wide variety of mediums, such as the felt tip marker drawing presented here. Originally sold in 1969 by the venerable Galerie Simonne Stern, the whimsical still life presents fun opportunities for interpretation.
Gordy’s works are conserved by museums such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the New Orleans Museum of Art.
